We’ve all had it happen to us. People going silent on us, not wanting to hurt our feelings by telling us that they want to go in a different direction.
Whether in a business or personal relationship, I find it less stressful to know what someone’s thinking than to not know. I find it refreshing when someone is candid and says they’re not interested in moving forward together.
If going silent is meant to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, it has the exact opposite effect. Studies have shown that ghosting is the most hurtful way to end communication. Avoidance, therefore, is the opposite of what we should do.
